Sneezing My Advertising Career Away

I’m really not supposed to like viral campaigns. I should be above that, right? Common folks pass along these well-schemed, manufactured slices of cool, but not Advertising pros. Viral is passe. Crusty, even. So subservient-chicken, early 00′s.

Here is a brief rundown of three well executed viral campaigns that are currently in play.

My first fav: Dell Summer Rocks | Digital Mixtape

Here’s the deal: Dell wants to be relevant with the college crowd. Shocking, I know. Rather than roll out a mass media campaign, they’ve targeted a niche – the Summer Music Festival crowd. If it works out, Dell will have slyly borrowed the indie cool from the likes of Lightspeed Champion, Thoa, Morning Benders, etc. Much better than a banner ad on Facebook, or a flyer at the student book store. Cheap and brilliant.
